What a Degree's Promises Can Really Establish

Two salaries, an unresolved comparison

PLN 8,995 gross and PLN 5,982.53 gross appear to offer sharply different answers to a prospective student's earnings question. INNPoland's journalist reported the first figure in ELA Uczeń for special education and the second as a first-year graduate median on studia.gov.pl for the same course and institution. His September 4, 2026 article did not reconcile the populations, graduation years, earnings windows or statistical definitions behind the displays. The discrepancy warrants explanation, but cannot establish salary inflation on its own. Before either figure becomes a personal expectation, a reader needs to know whose earnings it describes and when they were measured.

The same test found psychology listed at Collegium Humanum under its former name, although INNPoland said the institution was then called Varsovia. A stale name raises a practical identification problem: an applicant needs to connect historical information to the institution offering a course. It does not automatically invalidate the underlying graduate records. INNPoland described ELA as drawing on administrative information from ZUS and POL-on, with coverage of more than seven million graduates according to the government's account. The article does not establish the tested service's technical architecture or that it uses AI; treating this as an identified AI failure would exceed the evidence.

This archival analysis, limited to material available by September 11, 2026, asks how applicants should weigh earnings, career-demand claims and promises of belonging. Its thesis is that these sources answer separate questions. Historical income can describe a group, occupational information can reveal possible routes, and a campaign can communicate an intended experience. A defensible degree comparison needs all three dimensions without letting one substitute for another. An appealing future remains a legitimate reason to investigate a course. Making that future credible requires distinguishing possibilities, additional requirements and institutional commitments from outcomes that no source here can guarantee.

A salary does not describe an entire career

INNPoland's account contains qualifications that complicate its own headline discrepancy. The journalist noted that ELA acknowledged study format and previous employment experience as influences on earnings, and that income was counted across all sources. A relatively high display might therefore partly reflect people who were already working or earning through several activities. This is a plausible alternative explanation, not a reconciliation of the figures. The article's examination of job advertisements also found considerable variation by workplace, specialization and experience. Neither the displayed graduate statistic nor an individual vacancy can be assumed to represent a newly qualified person's likely starting salary.

The September 4 promoted article on lukow24.pl supplies another dimension: the route from degree to eligible professional work. While marketing WSB-NLU's five-year psychology master's program and its clinical, educational and business specializations, it said school psychology also required pedagogical preparation. It distinguished psychology studies from the further, lengthy training involved in psychotherapy and advised checking the requirements of particular roles. These details allow an attractive career proposition to become more specific. They do not verify the promoted program's placement record, establish that every specialization meets every occupational requirement or resolve an individual applicant's eligibility for a future position.

Lukow24.pl framed its offer through local demand, including a 2026 shortage forecast for psychologists and therapists in Łuków County and a psychiatric-care project valued at PLN 49.9 million. Those are reported contextual claims within explicitly promoted material. A planned healthcare investment is not a disclosed list of graduate vacancies, and a shortage forecast for one locality is not a prediction for the end of a five-year degree. The article also described applications in recruitment, employee development and market research. These possibilities justify examining curricula and practical preparation, while leaving the availability, competition and qualification requirements of future jobs unresolved.

Few advertisements are not the whole market

Politika's September 5 report offers a contrasting Serbian picture, relaying an Infostud analysis through Beta. Psychology in Novi Sad attracted 360 applicants for 80 places, while Infostud recorded just four advertisements in its narrowly defined psychology category during the first half of 2026, averaging about 150 applications each. Those figures describe different populations and processes. Applicants competing for university places cannot be directly matched to people applying for jobs, and a platform's six-month advertisement count does not measure an entire profession. Politika explicitly acknowledged that the small category did not represent the whole psychology labor market.

Hiring under other titles provides a plausible counterargument to the inference that psychology offers almost no employment. Politika reported 409 first-half advertisements in human resources, an area open to psychology graduates and other educational backgrounds, with about 145 applications per advertisement. It also noted that some healthcare hiring took place through institutions and channels outside Infostud. These qualifications expose the coverage problem without proving that unseen opportunities were abundant. The narrow psychology count and broader HR count cannot simply be combined into guaranteed demand for psychologists. An applicant still needs to identify which jobs actually accept the degree and what other experience they require.

Politika also described underfilled engineering programs alongside 903 advertisements in construction and geodesy, 736 in mechanical engineering and 452 in electrical engineering during the same half-year. The Technical Faculty in Bor received 57 applicants for 240 places. This contrast can reveal questions that career guidance should address, but it cannot select a degree for someone or forecast conditions at graduation. Its suggestion that some engineering careers were less visible is an attributed interpretation. The Polish local shortage account and Serbian platform analysis likewise concern different countries, occupational definitions and recruitment channels. They do not cancel each other out or jointly establish a universal psychology employment outlook.

Belonging needs evidence of experience

Student experience introduces a further question that salary and vacancy figures cannot answer. Sussex Express's September 4 contributor article said the University of Chichester had been shortlisted on September 3 for marketing and environmental awards. Its account described a refreshed recruitment strategy using student stories and personalized communications, with the intention of helping prospective students feel connected before arrival. University staff presented the campaign positively and referred to its impact. Their statements establish the institution's objectives and account of its work. The archive supplies no independent recruitment, retention or student-experience measurements demonstrating that the intended belonging was delivered.

There is a legitimate case for communicating both career possibilities and a welcoming environment: applicants need ways to understand courses and imagine daily study. The limitation is evidentiary, rather than a presumption that promotion is deceptive. WSB-NLU's promoted article has an interest in making occupational routes attractive; Chichester's quoted staff have an interest in presenting their campaign favorably. INNPoland provides one test and a secondhand comparison with another government service, while Politika carries one underlying Infostud analysis through Beta. Republishing those claims in other formats supplies no additional confirmation. Credible expectations depend on keeping those source roles visible alongside the opportunities they describe.

Later disclosures could strengthen or weaken these accounts. ELA could reconcile the earnings definitions and institution names; Chichester could publish measures that connect recruitment communication with applicants' subsequent experience. Its November 2026 awards ceremony was still prospective at this archive's cutoff, and an eventual award would remain recognition rather than proof of impact. The concrete standard for evaluating a course is therefore to ask whose earnings are shown, which additional qualifications the intended work requires, and what evidence supports the promised student experience. Those questions preserve room for ambition while making its assumptions inspectable; the archive cannot choose a degree or promise its outcome.
